Mental health is no longer a conversation we can avoid having,  especially when it comes to our students, educators, and families. Every day, young people are navigating trauma, anxiety, pressure, grief, and real-life situations while teachers and school staff are carrying the weight of supporting them through it all. That’s why I truly appreciate seeing organizations and programs like Project Prevent creating intentional spaces for healing, education, and solutions.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Project Prevent will host its 3rd Annual Mental Health Symposium, “The impACT,” at Events at the Foundry in Buffalo from 8 AM to 3 PM. The conference is centered around advancing mental health and wellness throughout Buffalo Public Schools and our community.

What I love most about this event is that it’s not just another panel discussion where people talk at the community. This symposium is focused on impact, practical resources, and action. Attendees will hear from experts, engage in breakout sessions, participate in wellness activities, and have honest conversations around trauma-informed care, burnout, resilience, and supporting students and families impacted by violence.

The event will also feature keynote speaker Michael Eric Dyson, whose voice continues to push meaningful conversations around culture, education, healing, and community accountability.

And honestly, Buffalo needs this. Our schools need this. Our young people need this, and so do the teachers and professionals.

I always say community starts with connection, and part of that connection is making sure people feel seen, heard, and supported. Mental health matters just as much as physical health, and the more we normalize these conversations, the stronger our communities become.

Breakfast, lunch, and complimentary parking will also be provided for attendees.

If you’re an educator, parent, mentor, counselor, youth advocate, or someone who simply cares about the future of Buffalo, this is definitely an event worth pulling up to.
