Buffalo Sets Surprising Crime Record
Living in an urban community comes with some things that you like and some other things that you don't like. Often, vibrant communities are able to be successful because you have a bunch of people living near each other and they're able to interact with each other. However, one of the drawbacks of high population density, especially when living in or near communities of lower socioeconomic status, is that you often have to deal with crime.
Unfortunately, it seems that crime is often a part of life in modern society. Now, while certain members of the federal government would want you to believe that crime in the United States and its major cities is running rampant, the data collected by local, state, and federal government agencies doesn't show that.
Nationwide, major cities from New York to California have experienced significant declines in overall crime rates. While some individual crime types may be fluctuating, the overall crime rate is down significantly. It could easily be said that we are living in the safest time ever in human history.
But, that doesn't mean that societises shoudl rest on thier laurels thinking that everything is all good, still, you should celebrate the wins when they happen.
Buffalo Sets Surprising Crime Record
One of those wins occurred in August 2025 for New York State's second-largest city.
According to data that was recently released by the Buffalo Police Department, the city of Buffalo had zero (o) homicides during August for the first time in at least the last 4 decades (since crime statistics have been collected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The data released by the BPD on Monday, September 8, 2025, also detailed year-over-year decreases in Rape, Robbery, Burglaries, Larcenies, and Motor Vehicle Thefts.
Crime across the state, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, has also been dropping in cities from New York to Buffalo and just about everywhere in between.
What do you think? Is crime actually decreasing in Buffalo and other places in the state, or do you believe otherwise?
