You may be more familiar with the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC...but did you know there's an equally beautiful celebration right in the Queen City?

The Japanese Garden in Delaware Park is one of the most tranquil and lovely spots you'll find in Buffalo.  Maintained by the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, a cherry tree orchard sits in a peaceful setting near the Statue of President Lincoln (resting on top of the portico of the Buffalo History Museum).  It's a beautiful place to meditate, take a walk, or take pictures.

The Garden was completed in 1974 as a gesture of sisterhood between Buffalo and Kanazawa, Japan.  (Read more on the sisterhood here and with the video below.)  If you've never been, you truly owe it to yourself to make a point of it.  It's a sweet little treasure in the heart of Delaware Park.

On Saturday, April 29th at noon, join a host of dignitaries including Mayor Byron Brown and Senator Chris Jacobs for the Grand Opening ceremony of the Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival.  Following the press conference  at the portico (off Elmwood Ave and Nottingham Terrace), there will be a dance performance by Japanese folk dance group Oodori no Kai, as well as a preview of "Madama Butterfly", presented by the Buffalo Opera Unlimited.
