National Website Predicts Bills Trade For Star Defensive Player
As fun as the NFL season and playoffs are, the next 8-10 weeks might be the most fun for a football fan. That's because the start of free agency is on the horizon in the NFL, along with build-up to the NFL Draft.
The Buffalo Bills are in a very interesting position. That's because general manager Brandon Beane has virtually no projected cap space this offseason, but the Bills still need to re-sign some important players and upgrade in free agency and the draft.
The Bills will more than likely, restructure current contracts and release veterans they deem expendable to make room under the salary cap.
A trade possibility is another thing to consider, especially since experts are expecting the trade market to be very active across the NFL over the next several weeks.
Pro Football Focus, which is one of the most followed NFL websites, recently published their "15 trades to watch out for," and among the trades was one involving the Bills and Minnesota Vikings edge rusher, Danielle Hunter.
The mock trade would be Hunter coming to the Bills in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and a 2nd round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Hunter has spent his entire seven-year career with the Vikings, but he's still only 27 years old. He recorded 14.5 sacks in 2018 and 2019, but missed the entire 2020 season with an injury, and over half of 2021 with an injury as well. He still managed 6 sacks in 7 games in 2021.
Hunter's been notably unhappy in Minnesota and is due an $18 million roster bonus in March. The clock is ticking on what the Vikings decide to do, but Hunter plays the one position the Bills most need help with on defense, and he's former teammates with current Bills wide receiver, Stefon Diggs.
Beane has shown in the past that he is not afraid to make impact trades. This trade makes too much sense, but it depends on if the Vikings want to start a rebuild (which could include trading other players like quarterback Kirk Cousins), and whether or not the Bills can create the cap space for Hunter.
We shall see.
