The Buffalo Bills have arguably the best roster in the NFL; put together by general manager Brandon Beane and his staff.

Still, great teams always look to improve and Beane has proven in the past that he is not afraid to explore opportunities to improve this Bills roster.

By now, you know that the Carolina Panthers traded star running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round draft picks. McCaffrey will now be the featured back in the 49ers west coast style offense with Kyle Shanahan, which seems like a perfect fit.

The Bills were reportedly interested in landing McCaffrey before the November 1st trade deadline.

Dan Fetes of 13 WHAM in Rochester reported earlier this months that the Bills reached out to Carolina about McCaffrey, which the Bills reached out to Fetes to say they did not.

On Friday, John Wawrow of the AP reported that the Bills offered a second round pick for McCaffrey.

Wawrow reports the Bills were not prepared to go further in compensation.

Tim Graham of The Athletic reports that the Bills first reached out about McCaffrey last Friday but never made an actual offer. The price was too high for them but they continued to monitor.

Most Bills fans seemed relieved that Beane did not go further in discussions, because the 49ers did give up far too much for an aging running back, with a list of prior injuries and a base salary that approaches $20 million in 2023.

The Bills may still be after the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. or even Cam Akers, but McCaffrey was far too rich for a team who is nowhere near desperate enough to make that kind of trade.
