The Feuchtwanger Stable (aka 159 Carlton Avenue) was built in a Romanesque Revival Style in 1888. This boutique condominium building has 12 units. Though the building has evolved with the neighborhood, it has been left with many of its original details, like the massive arched windows, creating a magical home environment in the heart of Fort Greene. ~ Compass
The home has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is also a home office, laundry room, a chef's kitchen and a dressing room. The apartment features a wood-burning fireplace in the living room. In total, it is 1,701 square feet. The building, which features 12 other units, was built in 1888. It was previously home to a candy factory, a storage warehouse, and an auto repair garage, before being turned into walk-ups a century later in 1988. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986,
The Feuchtwanger Stable at 159 Carlton Avenue is significant as a rare surviving example of an architecturally distinguished late nineteenth century commercial stable in Brooklyn. The commercial stable was an important building type in late nineteenth century urban areas. One of the few examples of this building type to survive intact, this stable embodies the distinctive characteristics of the type and period and recalls the nineteenth-century residential and related commercial development of Brooklyn.
The current owner of the home is a famous costume designer named Caroline Duncan. Biggie owned the apartment in 1994 and lived in it with Faith and her daughter, Chyna. He created his classic album 'Ready to Die' while living in the walk-up.
The property is currently listed for sale by Josh Doyle on Compass.
