If you have lived in Buffalo for any length of time you have probably been to the Chippewa strip, as we call it. For a long time, this has been the place to be for nightlife entertainment or even for happy hour or maybe just having dinner. According to WGRZ, the entertainment district is set for a makeover that will run for about $8 million. The work will begin on Monday to include improvements to Chippewa, Franklin, and court street. Chippewa will be where the work begins, and the other two streets will get started at a later date.

The improvements will include, expanded sidewalks along Chippewa to accommodate more space for outdoor dining and more lighting. I have played in spots on the Chippewa strip as a DJ, in my opinion, I feel like it could use some improvements in many ways, but the infrastructure is a start.

We worked with the district business owners to create a safe outdoor space on Chippewa Street that was extremely popular and kept many businesses open at a time when only outdoor and take-out and drinks were allowed. As we transition out of pandemic life, we want to create a space that supports increased outdoor activities.

The makeover on Chippewa should be finished by late 2021 or early 2022 and the work on court street will begin soon after that. I like to hear about the great improvements to downtown Buffalo, I'm excited to see what the improvements will look like, and the opportunities that they will create for businesses to continue to grow.
