There have been many rumors swirling around all over the country that a major national discount department store was closing some stores. Now, it appears that's really happening, as more than 300 Big Lots stores nationwide are liquidating their inventory and shutting their doors.

Initial reports were that Big Lots was only going to close 30 or 40 stores, but this number increased to around 150 stores, and now, according to CBS News, as many as 315 stores are on the chopping block.

At least two of those stores are located right here in Western New York. The Big Lots on South Ogden Street near Dingens Street, along with the North Buffalo store on Delaware Avenue and Linden, have signs up stating that they are closing and offering deep discounts on merchandise.

Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the big box discount retailer is known for carrying furniture, household goods, gardening essentials, and everyday basics. It has nearly 1,400 stores nationwide and has positioned itself as a one-stop shop for turning your house into a home.

The chain posted a financial loss of more than $200 in just one quarter this year, and many are worried it will not survive the year without making substantial changes to its operating structure.
