There are so many stories relative to the 9-11 tragedy as we remember its victims on the anniversary of this event. One of the stories that stands out has direct ties to Buffalo, NY. The story of Buffalo, NY, native, Beverly Eckert.

Beverly Eckert became an advocate for investigating 9/11 appealing to Congress to form a commission to investigate the tragic event. Eckert had an unfortunate motivation for doing so – her husband, Sean Rooney, was one of the victims in one of the Towers on September 11, 2001, and did not survive.

Among Beverly Eckert's efforts, relative to 9/11, she became the co-chairperson of Voices of September 11, which was comprised a group of spouses, children and friends of 9/11 victims. The organization was formed to make sure such an attack on America couldn't ever happen again.

On February 12, 2009, on a scheduled Colgan Air Flight 3407 passenger flight, from Newark, New Jersey, to Buffalo, New York, Beverly Eckert was on board, traveling to Buffalo to attend an event at Canisius High School to honor her husband lost in the 9/11 tragedy.  Colgan Air Flight 3407 subsequently crashed – Killing Beverly Eckert.

Beverly Eckert and her husband Sean Rooney were high school sweethearts and met at Canisius High School.
