Coldest Temperatures In Nearly A Decade Are On The Way To Buffalo
Living in Buffalo and Western New York during the winter usually means we have to deal with snow and cold temperatures. It's a fairly common occurrence around these parts for quite a few months. For the most part, those temps average in the high 20s°F to low 30s°F for most of the winter. That's not to say that we don't get the occasional blast of super cold air, but for the most part, the cold is bearable during most of the winter season.
However, thanks to another potential polar vortex that's heading our way, officials from the National Weather Service are ringing the alarm about some dangerously cold temperatures that will blast the region in the coming days.

Current forecasts predict that Western and Central New York will be on the verge of receiving a big blast of Arctic air coming from the north pole, which will take the region well below freezing for several days. According to the National Weather Service, Buffalo hasn't seen a day with a temperature below 0°F since 2019 and hasn't seen consecutive days of temps below 10°F since 2018, but both of these are expected very soon.
High temps on Saturday, January 18, 2025, are expected to be in the low to mid 30s°F before dipping to the teens°F with lows on Sunday, January 19, 2025, being in the single digits and even cold wind chills. Over the next few days, these extremely cold temps will likely be accompanied by lake effect snow in the snow band areas.
If you have to be outside, it's essential that you are bundled up properly to deal with the weather.
