As extremely cold air continues to blow into Western New York from the Arctic Circle, people who have to be outside for any extended amount of time are especially in danger of suffering health risks. Some of the coldest weather of the 2025-26 winter season is hitting the Empire State hard this year and not only has the Buffalo region been hit with some big snowfall totals and multiple days of below freezing temperatures have gripped the region hard. In fact, the Buffalo region has not had a temperate above freezing since January 22, 2026, when it was 32 degrees.

Everyday since has been below freezing, with the warmest it has been barely rising above 25 degrees, which was considered a brief warmup from the string of single-digit temperatures we've had.

While another warmup is expected towards to the end of next week is expected, the weather and tomorrow are expcted to be sold cold that local officials have issued another Extreme Weather Cold Blue for Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Another Extreme Cold Blue Issued For Buffalo and Western New York

For now the eighth day in a row this month, City of Buffalo and non-profit officials have issued a Code Blue. According to the WNY Coalition for the Homeless, a Code Blue is Erie County and the City of Buffalo's cold weather emergency safety plan that provides outreach, transportation, shelter, and a warm meal to individuals in our community who are unhoused on evenings when temperatures or wind chill fall to 32 degrees or below.

With temperatures expected to be near or below zero for several hours, plus wind chills hovering around -25, officials are once again opening up daytime emergency warming centers and overnight shelters and going around the city in outreach teams to highly encourage anyone who is unhoused to come in from the cold. The Cold Blue shelter, located at 100 E Tupper Street in downtown Buffalo, will be open from 7pm. until 7am, plus breakfast served from 7am-8am, and the daytime warming and resource Center at 100 E Tupper Street will be open from 9am-5pm with dinner being served at 5pm.

There are other shelters open around the city and you can find a full list of them and their locations here on the 211WNY website.

You can find more information about the Code Blue system and donate to help those in need here on the WNY Coalition for the Homeless website.
