After a few days of relatively warmer temperatures in the Empire State, officials from the National Weather Service and several European weather services are issuing warnings that we should start preparing for another blast of ice-cold temps from the Arctic as another polar vortex is on the agenda for North America.

Arctic air is expected to drop into the midwest and northern parts of the south as the week goes on, bringing more frigid temperatures with it. In early January, when the last polar vortex hit the nation, several places saw snowfall for the first time in years. Western and Central New York also saw temps that dropped into the teens and single digits.

There is a current European weather model that is forecasting several parts of the United States will see temps that are 20 or more degrees below normal. The next 10-14 days will be telling, and it's best to make sure you're prepared for normal temps and more snow over the next couple of weeks.

What Is A Polar Vortex

Often, you hear a lot of terms thrown around in the media, but what exactly do they mean? Well, according to the National Weather Service, a Polar Vortex is a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth’s poles. This kind of air is always at the poles, but sometimes, during winter, this ultra-cold air can be pulled south with the jet stream, causing areas that don't normally get super cold weather to experience it.

It's a fairly regular weather phenomenon that happens, and the best thing we can do is to just make sure we're prepared for it.
