
Heavy Rains Bring Flooded Roads and Basements All Over Buffalo Area
After a day and night of wild weather in the Buffalo and Western New York area, weather that brought major winds and rain along with several confirmed and unconfirmed tornadoes, people all over the 716 and 585 had just started to clean up the damage that happened on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
However, that cleanup was cut short by Mother Nature as the skies once again turned cloudy as major rains started to blow across the region on Thursday, September 3, 2026, causing some major flooding issues in parts of Buffalo, Kenmore, Amherst, Cheektowaga, West Seneca, and other areas of Erie County.

The region's wastewater treatment plants, which were at capacity from the heavy rains a day ago, are now taxed beyond their limits as people all over the region are not only dealing with flooded streets, but backed-up basements full of sewage.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning around 8:45 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2026, that advised people who lived in low-lying areas, along with those who live near streams, to flee to higher ground. The warning, which was issued for areas around Central erie County and east to northwestern Wyoming County areas in Western New York.
An additional flash flood warning was issued for Elma Center and other parts of Western New York.
The damage from the last two days of storms hasn't been limited to just Western and Central New York, as Toronto, Ontario, also saw major damage. Multiple news outlets in the Greater Toronto Area are reporting that Rogers Stadium in the city's Downsview neighborhood was nearly destroyed by storms.
The good news for people around the region is that the weekend weather outlook is looking much better than the last few days have been.
