The Premier Hockey League is the only professional women's hockey league in the United States to pay its players and is the new name of the National Women's Hockey League.

The NWHL decided to switch the name of the league in an effort to take gender out of the league and just promote professional players playing their sport. The Premier Hockey League is only a professional women's league and does not use the term "women" or other gender-defining words in the league's name.

The Premier Hockey league is also home to the Buffalo Beauts who have been part of the league since the inception of the league in 2015. Currently, the Beauts play their home games in Amherst at the Northtown Center.

The Beauts have won one championship in their history, back during the 2016-17 season. Last year, the team played in a bubble-like many pro sports teams, and the Beauts failed to make the playoffs.

Here is hoping for a better year and many Western New Yorkers are looking forward to watching Beaut games all season long.
