Every now and then, I think about Amish people. Weird, right?! Their culture intrigues me. How can people be so content living old-world style in times where technology has advanced beyond our wildest dreams? No judgment, I am genuinely curious. We rarely hear about the Amish unless it's some accident between a car and one of their horse-drawn buggies. Sometimes they might pop out at a farmers' market to sell their baked goods.

When it comes to the state with the largest population of Amish, Pennsylvania is number one with 92,660. The Amish population in Pennsylvania has almost tripled in 30 years. In 1992, 32,710 Amish were living in the state. Ohio and Indiana have the second and third-largest Amish populations, respectively.

New York ranks fifth, behind Wisconsin, when it comes to places with the largest Amish population. There are 24,325 Amish living in the state. While we're at the bottom of the top 5, the Amish population has grown exponentially since 1992, when the population was only 4,050, according to Wikipedia. Can Amish People Be Arrested In New York?

Every now and the Lifetime Movie Network will air a binge-worthy marathon of Amish-themed movies. If you know anything about LMN, you know it's all about crime. You don't hear about Amish crimes often. Mainly, they keep any crimes that occur within their communities, not seeking outside law enforcement. That has been a big problem with secretive religious sects when it comes to crimes like rape, abuse, and child sexual assaults. Because the members of the community do not trust outsiders, these types of crimes don't get reported to the police.

Surprisingly, the Amish can still be arrested. While it may not be common or easy to investigate a crime committed by an Amish person, it does happen. Crimes like driving while impaired are easier for law enforcement to catch. While you may think there aren't serious crimes in Amish villages, that's not true, although they may be rare.

Recently, an Amish woman in Ohio has been hit with multiple charges related to the deaths of her 4-year-old son and husband at Atwood Lake. Ruth Miller, 40, is facing two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of domestic violence, and one count of endangering children, per Cleveland 19.

An Amish man in Missouri has been accused of several child sex crimes, per KRCG 13. Jared Wagler, 48, is already heading to trial on previous sex crimes charges. In 2023, he was indicted by a grand jury on 22 child sex abuse charges, including First-Degree Rape of a Child Less Than 12 Years Old.
