Listeria Concerns Prompt Recall Of Tuna In New York
Another day, another recall! Lord help us! When it comes to our food, over the years, I have lost confidence in food manufacturing. There seems to be a lack of concern for the safety of our food. It's hard to pinpoint the problem, but I do believe there is a problem. I've seen a lot of recalls due to undeclared allergens, which could kill people with allergies. It's scary to think about. There also seems to be a lot of recalls due to Listeria. As a matter of fact, this recall is due to the bacteria.

I'm not a fan of raw meat, but I do love a good Ahi Tuna Poke. But this recall may keep me away from it for a while. Western United Fish Company, doing business as Annasea Foods Group of Kent, Washington, has issued a recall for its Kirkland Signature brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The recall is due to possible Listeria contamination. The crazy thing is, it's not actually the fish that is putting consumers at risk - it's the green onions.
What Is Listeria?
You've probably heard of listeria, as there have been lots of recalls due to it recently. Listeria monocytogenes is,
"An organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can lead to serious pregnancy complications among pregnant women."
