You’re Invited to a Community Block Party for Voting
With the voting season upon us once again, and to encourage people to participate in early voting for the upcoming New York State primary, a cadre of community organizations wants you to come out and vote, and celebrate with them in a block party type style while raising awareness of voting.
VOICE Buffalo is partnering with the Buffalo Branch of the NAACP, the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals, Black Love Resists in the Rust, Free the People WNY, the League of Women Voters, and the Healthcare Education Project to host their CommUNITY Early Voting event called Souls To The Polls.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12th at the Delavan-Grider Community Center, located at 877 E. Delavan Avenue, with a press conference to hear from community leaders. Immediately following the press conference, at approximately noon, the block party will begin.
There will be an opportunity for people to learn more about the electoral process in New York. There will also be food, music entertainment, and vendors on site. The block party is expected to run from Noon until about 5 p.m
I had the opportunity to talk with Mark Glasgow and Jasmine Westbrook from the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals, two of the organizers of the Souls to the Polls event. You can check out parts of our conversation below:
