One of my favorite things to watch as a kid was American Idol. This is when the show was in its first couple of years when stars such as Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Carrie Underwood were making their runs at the title.

It's hard to believe that American Idol has been on the air for almost 20 years and it's not often that people in Western New York can have the chance at auditioning, but they soon will be able to and the best part if you don't even have to go anywhere to do so!

According to WKBW, American Idol is holding virtual auditions for anyone 15 years of age or older in New York State, starting on August 8th.

Each state will have to audition virtually and those who are residents in New York State can start the second week of August.

The process is fairly simple and you can find the link here to sign up and learn more.

I remember years ago -- in 2004 when East Amherst native John Stevens finished sixth on the third season of American Idol. It was the talk of the town those few weeks he was advancing through and it really did captivate everyone here.

It would be so cool to have another local compete and advance in American Idol. It's probably the most famous singing competition show (or maybe any reality show) to ever air and you'll have your chance soon.

LOOK: The most famous actress born the same year as you

Many of the actresses in this story not only made a name for themselves through their collection of iconic performances, but also through the selfless, philanthropic nature with which many of them approached their stardom. In an age of flipping the script on societal norms, many of these actresses are using their voices and platforms to be advocates for those who are otherwise unheard.
