WNY COVID-19 Spread Rate Soaring, The Highest In New York State
We've done it again; Western New York is number one! But, this isn't something we should get a prize for, as we have the highest COVID-19 7-day average positivity rate. Yes, we're leading the pack. We're even way ahead of the most populated region in New York State.
The threat of another shutdown or mandates could be looming, as three regions have COVID-19 7-day average positivity rates above 10 percent. Three others are quickly approaching 10 percent. Governor Kathy Hochul said,
We have the tools and we know what works to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and healthy. Get the vaccine - it's the best way to prevent serious illness, and make sure to get boosted if you are eligible. Test early and test often, even if symptoms are mild, and talk to your doctor about available treatments if you test positive.
Only one of the 10 regions has a 7-day average positivity rate of under 5 percent - New York City, which is the most populated in the state.
