Computer Glitches Closes Canadian Border In Western New York
The last few days in Western New York and Southern Ontario have been filled with all sorts of weird and abnormal things.
Not only is the United States in the middle of a federal government shutdown that is impacting everything from airport security to public parks, but now it seems that people trying to get into and out of Canada, which borders America, are having some significant trouble.
If you've done any driving over the last 24 to 48 hours, you may have noticed a lot more truck traffic on area roadways. It seems that due to a huge computer glitch, it has shut down systems all over the world's longest undefended international border.

According to City News Vancouver, the Canada Border Services Agency had a series of computer issues that forced serious delays in the agency's ability to approve and clear commercial truck traffic trying to enter Canada. Those delays quickly led to huge backups on highways along the 5,500-mile border between the two countries.
Those backups eventually led to the closure of the Canadian border for all commercial traffic. This closure is significant as more than 12,000 trucks pass into Canada from America every single day.
According to NITTEC, the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition, delays of several hours were happening for truck traffic at the region's three border crossings.
Officials from CBSA have since announced that the computer issues have been resolved and delays will soon return to normal, but that may take a while, as thousands of trucks have been delayed or turned away from the border.
Halifax City News in Canada reported that this is the latest outage like this to happen over the last several weeks, as something similar happened at Calgary International Airport, Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport, and Toronto's Pearson International Airport recently.
Here's hoping things get back to normal soon all over North America.
