According to the National Weather Service, the Buffalo area was hit with wind gusts that topped out at 79 MPH, which has not only caused flooding all over the waterfront along the region, to downed trees and powerlines all over town.
There are reports all over social media about trees falling on roads and houses around the region, along with thousands of people who are without power in Western New York. According to WIVB-TV, more than 90,000 customers who have electric service from NYSEG and RG&E were without power, along with a few thousand National Grid customers.
In addition to crews working to restore power, National Grid is also distributing water and dry ice to people who have been impacted by the power outages.
The winds are expected to die down overnight and into Tuesday morning, with just a general snowfall to continue to fall in the area. However, some parts of the southtowns are expected to see two or more feet of snow before this current weather system moves on from Buffalo.
While a travel ban has not been implemented, officials are advising people to think twice about going out.
