Western New York Has Had Wild & Weird Weather Lately
If you were to ask a random person around America what kind of weather they think Buffalo, New York, received, most of them would say snow. Buffalo's connection with snow is so strong that even in the middle of the summer, people who don't live in the northeast will ask if snow is on the ground. Considering our history with the fluffy white stuff, most Buffalonians can understand that thought process.
However, if you've been paying attention to some recent weather in and around the 716, we may need to start worrying about more than some random snowfall.

As people and businesses in downtown Buffalo begin cleaning up from a tornado that touched down on Lake Erie and moved into the city from the water, this latest weather event is just the latest in a series of really wild and weird weather we've seen over the past few months in New York State.
In July, New York State experienced a record number of tornados. Areas all over the Empire States were impacted so much that state officials are making millions of dollars available for emergency assistance.

Even before summer officially began in America, Buffalo was experiencing some extreme and record-breaking heat. With a heat dome sitting over the 716, officials opened cooling centers and even ended school early in some cases.

In the spring, temperatures around Western New York were so warm that the Lake Erie Ice Boom was removed early, way earlier than normal and, in fact, the earliest it had ever been removed.
However, it wasn't super warm for the entire winter. It had been quite cold. It was so cold that a shipping barge got stuck in the Buffalo River after the water froze around it, wedged in place for a while.

Not only did it get pretty cold, but the snow-making machine also caused an interesting phenomenon that not many people were aware of. Quite a few people were introduced to thundersnow for the first time last year.
Of course, this is just over the last year or so, and we're not even talking about the earthquakes that hit Western New York last year.
All we know is if Godzilla happens to start strolling down Elmwood Avenue, we might be in trouble.
