Each month Westchester County releases a list of restaurants that have had health inspectors visit them during the month. The health inspectors look at many things during their visits to ensure that the restaurants and other places with kitchens keep us safe. The health code violation reports cover a multitude of issues, including things like "Toilet facilities inadequate, inconvenient, dirty, in disrepair, toilet paper missing, not self-closing doors, missing hand wash signs" and even critical violations like "Food workers prepare raw and cooked or ready to eat food products without 'thorough handwashing and sanitary glove changing in between."

With Christmas just a few days away, many people will receive gift cards to local restaurants as gifts. I am on a mission to make sure you and your family have the information you need about which restaurants in Westchester County have passed their inspections with flying colors. There have been so many scary and potentially deadly problems with our food in recent years. Everything from food-borne infections to dangerous food preparation.

Each month I will provide a list of restaurants that have passed their inspections so that you can feel confident patronizing them. While 115 restaurants failed their health code inspections in Westchester County in November, I won't publish the list here. No one wants to see a local restaurant have their business hurt, but I certainly don't want you and your family to get hurt eating at a restaurant that doesn't take food safety seriously. It is pretty disappointing that only 14 spots that were inspected had no violations, while 115 did.

As you and your loved ones dine out and support local restaurants, I want the focus to be positive. Let us reward the restaurants (and other spots that serve food like churches or schools, which are always included on the list) that are working hard to serve us food that has been prepared to the highest standards.

Save this list and share it with your friends and family so they know which restaurants are doing an outstanding job with the food they are serving. Be on the lookout for this list monthly!

If you are the owner of a restaurant that did not pass its health code inspection in Westchester County, you can reach out to me here.
