Buffalo Tame The Lions, Winning 48-42
Coming off of a tough loss in Los Angeles against the Rams, the Buffalo Bills take a quick trip to the other side of Lake Erie to face their NFL cousins, the Detroit Lions. This week 15 game between Buffalo and Detroit is hyped up by many as a potential Super Bowl LIX preview, as both teams are in top shape in their conferences.
This is especially true as the Lions sported the NFL's best record and the league's stop-scoring offense, coming into this week 15 match-up against the team with the league 2nd best best-scoring offense in the Bills.

The matchup between these two powerhouses got to a fast start for the Bills as the team scored on both of their first two possessions. Both scores came from the legs of Josh Allen as who scored on 1-yard and 4-yard touchdown runs. Both of those scores were set up for the offense after some tremendous play from the Bills defense as the Bills kept Detroit from moving the ball in the 1st quarter and an amazing display of pass-catching from Bills' running back Ty Johnson.
The Bills offense was putting on a scoring clinic in the first half as running back James Cook added a third running touchdown after he scampered untouched for a 6-yard score.
As good as the Bills played, the first half didn't solely belong to Buffalo, as the Lions were able to pull a few tricks out of the passing playbook to help them drive down the field in the second quarter to score.
Tim Patrick could catch a pass and stretch his body to reach across the goal line to complete a 12-yard touching reception, along with offensive lineman Dan Skipper catching a 9-yard pass to rumble into the end zone for a score.
As the second quarter came to a close, both the Bills and Lions traded missed field goals, with both Tyler Bass and Jake Bates missing kicks.
The Buffalo Bills took their high-powered attack into the 2nd half, getting things started on the ground with James Cook scoring his second touchdown on the game after a 41-yard run to the end zone.
The game between these two behemoths of the NFL seemed to be going back and forth until the 3rd quarter when the Bills Christian Benford forced a fumble, the first turnover of the game, and giving the Bills possession of the football again. That turnover helped lead to a 3-yard touchdown pass from Allen to Khalil Shakir.
However, when you are playing against the team with the best record in the NFL, you can’t count them out at any point. Just when you thought the game was getting out of reach for the Lions, Jared Goff threw a laserbeam pass to AmenRa St. Brown, who then ran through the Bills secondary to score on a 66-yard reception. If that wasn’t enough, Jahmyr Gibbs also grabbed a 12-yard touchdown pass from Goff and ran for a second score in the fourth quarter, along with Jameson Williams grabbing a 3-yard scoring pass.
However, the late rally from the Lions wasn’t enough to overcome Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, as the team added to their all-time win total over Detroit. In the end, Buffalo put up more than 500 yards of offense on their way to a 48 to 42 victory at Ford Field.
With this big victory in the books, Buffalo heads back to Orchard Park, New York, to host the New England Patriots on Sunday, December 22, 2024, for an NFL Week 16 winter wonderland matchup at Highmark Stadium.
