A heat dome is hovering over New York State, and residents are being warned about water. The National Weather Service has stated that there is a heat index warning for New York and much of the Northeast and even Midwest. Temperatures on Thursday and Friday will be hot and New Yorkers will experience a heat index of 95-104 degrees.
The heat advisory will remain in effect for much of NYS through tomorrow, Thursday, June 20, 2024. The National Weather Service says the heat index values may reach 100 to 104. The heat temperatures and humidity may cause illness. New Yorkers are being cautioned to consume water in order to stay hydrated during the heat,
"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke."
"Drink plenty of fluids - preferably water."
Governor Kathy Hochul issued a warning today, June 19, 2024, to make New Yorkers aware that heat stroke is a REAL potential threat. Extreme heat can quickly cause death in people and animals. Certain people are more at risk of dying or suffering injury from heat stroke.
