This was insane yesterday. From Cheektowaga, Lancaster, Clarence, and even further, you could see this cloud of dark smoke in the air. It was certainly
A massive fire started at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday at 120 Earhart Drive in Amherst, just north of the airport. This is a massive facility where they make masks and personal protection items. The building called Premium PPE had dark smoke over it, and even early this morning firefighters were still on the scene keeping the situation under control.
If you were driving on the 90 at all, you certainly saw it and the situation some of it shut down which made Transit Road a mess late afternoon.
Numerous fire and police agencies warned local residents to clear the area for hazards.
The Main-Transit Fire Department is strongly recommending an evacuation for individuals in the area.
"There are industrial chemicals inside this building, which is why we are putting in place a strongly recommended evacuation from Curtwright Drive to Youngs Road to Wehrle Drive to the New York State Thruway," Sprague said", according to WGRZ.
There is a golf course over in that area called Diamond Hawk and if you were trying to go play in your golf league last night, many folks were getting turned away. Everyone at the scene had to decontaminate.
The firefighters had to strategize and make sure that they were upwind of the fire because of the chemical hazard. With the weather last night, I am sure the rain was a good help, but the wind could make things tricky.
