Don't you just hate it when your phone rings and you think it's a family member or friend, but it turns out to be a telemarketer? Even worse is when they call you multiple times a day, all day long. I ALWAYS block the number, but it seems like they have an endless supply of numbers because the next day they'll call back with a totally different and totally unblocked number. I get it, someone is feeding their family by doing this job, but take a hint.  If you call me three times and never get a response, stop calling! But, enough of my soapbox speech. New York State has a new law that will help stop harassing calls.

Governor Hochul Signs New Law To Help Stop Unwanted Spam Calls

Yesterday, Tuesday, December 6, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul signed a new law that will make it easier for you to stop telemarketers from calling you. Legislation (S.8450-B/A.8319-C) requires that telemarketers give the people they call the option to be added to the company's do-not-call list at the beginning of certain calls. Gov. Hochul said,

We are dialing up our efforts to give New Yorkers a break from unsolicited telemarketing calls. For too long, New Yorkers have dealt with these nuisance calls, not knowing they can avoid these interactions by being added to a telemarketer's do-not-call list. This new legislation will protect New Yorkers from receiving frustrating, unwanted calls by better providing information on do-not-call lists.

Right after the telemarketer gives their name, there will be an option to be added to the company's do-not-call list. Before the new law consumers would generally hang up before a telemarketer or recording mentioned the do-not-call list, which gave telemarketers the ability to continue calling.

Another New York Thruway Rest Area is Complete w/ Shake Shack! Take a Look!

There has been a lot of construction being done on the New York State Thruway Rest Areas and finally, we are starting to see some of the rest stops being completed. Although another rest area is open, this is one of the smaller versions of what the other ones will look like. Junius Ponds rest area about 2 hours from Albany heading west joins the Indian Castle rest area just 90 minutes west of Albany. Junius Ponds features a Starbucks and a Shake Shack. Both boast a Starbucks drive-thru and a convenience store featuring a variety of New York state products.
