One of the fun, recreational activities that were lost in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic were amusement parks. Outdoor parks, such as Six Flags Darien Lake, never reopened to the public during the 2020 season, but some great news was announced on Wednesday.

According to WIVB, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that both indoor and outdoor amusement parks in New York State can reopen.

Cuomo said indoor family entertainment centers can reopen starting March 26th. Outdoor amusement parks can reopen starting April 9th. That means parks such as Six Flags Darien Lake will be allowed to reopen in April!

Here are the guidelines for outdoor amusement parks in New York State, once they reopen:

  • 33 percent capacity.
  • Face coverings must be worn.
  • Social distancing practiced.
  • Temperature checks.
  • Frequent cleaning and disinfecting the park.
  • All tickets must be sold in advance.

Indoor family entertainment centers:

  • 25 percent capacity.
  • Face coverings.
  • Social distancing practiced.
  • Temperature checks.
  • Frequent cleaning and disinfecting.

Governor Cuomo added that further guidance for outdoor and indoor amusement parks would be coming later. He also said that overnight summer camps can plan on reopening this June.

"That doesn't happen until June and we hope the current trajectory stays until June. We're keeping an eye on these variants of interest, but they can plan on reopening," said Cuomo.

2020 was the first time I didn't go to Darien Lake and I'm sure this is great news for amusement park enthusiasts.
