Severe Weather Possible For New York State
We’re still six days away from the official start of summer, but the weather outside is already feeling like summer with temperatures regularly in the 70’s and 80’s.
On Tuesday, we saw temps reach the low 80’s and it will be even warmer and muggier on Wednesday, as 90 degrees isn’t out of the question across Western New York and New York State.
However, be prepared to deal with potentially severe weather, especially as we head into Wednesday night and most of Thursday.
The National Weather Service says that thunderstorms are possible for today and tomorrow, with the threat of severe thunderstorms possible.
The better chance for severe weather will be on Thursday.
The Weather Channel says Thursday is the better day for severe weather and these thunderstorms could produce damaging winds, heavy downpours and hail.
That hail could be large, which would cause a hazard for pedestrians and motorists.
We’re now in the time of the year where thunderstorms could pop up at a moment’s notice, and just because this is New York, doesn’t mean we are out of the woods with tornadoes, which can also happen during the summer months, even causing damage to property and endangering people.
If you’re caught out in a severe thunderstorm, make sure to take shelter. If you’re driving and a severe thunderstorm hits, take it slow and if you have almost no visibility, it’s probably best to pull into a parking lot if possible.
