If WNY Restaurants Pulls Lobsters From Menus, Try One Of These Seafood Boils
A new report from an environmental watch group could have a huge impact on restaurants in Western New York keeping lobster on their menu. But, even if lobster does get pulled from the menu, a boil from one of these 4 spots can satisfy some of your seafood cravings. Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch updated lobster rankings in September 2022. American lobster has moved from a 'good alternative' rating to an 'avoid rating'. The group recommends the change due to the threat lobster trapping poses to whales.
While the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch does not have regulatory or legislative powers, it has influence. Its reach could cause many restaurants, stores, meal prep services, and chefs to remove lobster or severely limit lobster on their menus and in their dishes.
American lobster caught in Canada with pots has been downgraded to an Avoid due to red Other Species and Management ratings. This fishery poses a risk to overfished or at-risk species, including endangered North Atlantic right whales.
