Roswell Park and UB Given Clearance to Start Testing COVID-19 Treatment
A treatment for COVID-19 could be developed right here in WNY by Roswell Park and the University at Buffalo.
According to WIVB, in an effort to find a treatment for COVID-19, which was responsible for causing more than 1,000 deaths in the United States on Wednesday alone, the United States Food and Drug Administration has cleared testing of the treatment. Roswell Park and the University at Buffalo will conduct trails of an arthritis drug, sarilumab, to treat COVID-19.
"KEVZARA® (sarilumab) is an injectable prescription medicine called an interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor blocker. KEVZARA is used to treat adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) after at least one other medicine called a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) has been used and did not work well or could not be tolerated." ~ Kevzara.com
