Rainbows Appear All Over Western New York Today
Buffalo area residents were surprised as they were heading to work and school this morning.
Weather conditions were just right as Buffalonians headed out for work and school this morning as multiple rainbows were reported to be seen in the sky all around Western New York.
Could these rainbows be here to greet us as we get ready for Halloween and all of the trick-or-treating that will happen later today?
Or perhaps these rainbows are related to the great 27 - 17 victory that the Buffalo Bills had over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football?
While we may never know the answer to that question, I think it's a safe bet that most Bills fans will go with that being the answer.
What Exactly Causes A Rainbow to Appear?
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, rainbows happen when sunlight enters water droplets in the atmosphere, slowing down and bending as it goes from air to denser water. The light reflects off the inside of the droplet, separating it into its colors. When light exits the droplet, it makes a rainbow.
A rainbow isn’t really a “thing” and it doesn’t exist in a particular “place.” It is an optical phenomenon that appears when sunlight and atmospheric conditions are just right—and the viewer’s position is just right to see it.

With Buffalo being on the eastern edge of Lake Erie, rainbows are pretty common around this area. But it's always great to see them first thing in the morning.
