I live on a 'cut through' street in Niskayuna so there is a decent amount of traffic and with that comes the occasional litter that lands on our lawn. No mystery to it. Just some dopes that think it's ok to litter. Not the case for one Upstate couple that have been trying to solve their litter riddle for 3 years now.

Someone has been driving past the home of Edward and Cheryl Patton and allegedly tossing garbage out the window and onto their lawn. For 3 years!!  Over and over, one McDonalds coffee cup after another. So many coffee cups that the Patton's filled 10 trash bags with the waste.

According to Syracuse.com , the Pattons have tried a number of different ways to try to catch this person. They have tried security cameras and binoculars. They even tried to track the incidents with index cards. Three years of this! Who would do this? Did the neighbors see anything?
The Hamburg Police Department finally got involved by setting up a surveillance of sorts. They sat near the littered lawn and kept an eye out for the culprit. One day it finally happened. Police pulled over a 76-year-old man moments after he dumped more garbage onto the property.
Any guesses as to who was breaking this law and why they were doing it? Turns out it was a former co-worker of Mrs. Patton. Apparently these two worked together at a bus company and while there the litterbug was always getting into disagreements with Pope. This disgruntled crabby co-worker wasn't just a trash talker, he was a trash tosser. The guy was charged with harassment and given a ticket for littering. Case closed.
