NYS COVID-19 Rent Relief Program Ends on February 1st
If you, or someone you know, are behind on your rent and need rental assistance, time is running out to apply for this statewide rental assistance program.
The New York State COVID-19 Rent Relief Extension Program was created by New York back in the summer to help people who were financially impacted. This program reopened last month with another set of funding to help those who qualify.
The last day to submit your application to this program is Monday, February 1st.
How Do I Apply?
Applications for this program are online on the NYS Homes and Community Renewal website. You can find the link to the application here. You can also call the Rent Relief Program call center at 1-833-499-0318. Associates are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Do I Qualify for Assistance?
All of the following things must apply to you for you to qualify for assistance under this program:
- Must be a renter and have a primary residence in New York State;
- Applicants must have lost income during the period of April 1, 2020 to July 31, 2020;
- Before March 7, 2020, household income must have been at or below 80% of the Area Median Income, adjusted for household size; and
- Households must be “rent-burdened” during the months they are applying for assistance between April 1, 2020 to July 31, 2020.
New York State had approximately ~$60 Million available to assist people with their rent. Please take advantage of this program if you need assistance because time is running out.
