New York State Police were extremely busy during St. Patrick's Day weekend, issuing more than 26,000 tickets across the state. During the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period in 2021, the Troopers issued 19,599 tickets and arrested 299 people for Driving While Intoxicated. That's an increase of more than 6,000 in 2022. The enforcement period was 9 days this year - Friday, March 11, to Sunday, March 20 - including two weekends, whereas last year was only five days with one weekend.

Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, DWI patrols and even monitored the sales of alcohol to minors. There were 243 people injured in car accidents and two people died.
