Health Code Violations In Monroe County Last Month

Each month in Monroe County restaurants and other organizations that conduct food preparations are subject to health inspection violations. It is very important to know which restaurants in our community are adhering to the rules and regulations. The last thing any of us want to do is go out to eat with our families and get sick. You might be surprised by some of the things these inspectors look for, like "Single service items reused, improperly stored, dispensed, not used when required," and critical violations like "Potentially hazardous foods are not kept at or below 45 degrees Fahrenheit during cold holding, except smoked fish not kept at or below 38 degrees Fahrenheit during cold holding."

The health code inspectors are certainly busy each month. Almost every day they visit restaurants, churches, schools, hotels, clubhouses, and other places that serve food in Monroe County, trying to keep residents safe. I'm always pretty shocked when I see some of the violations. Food can be very dangerous if not prepared properly, but they also ding restaurants for unsanitary bathrooms and other things that may not be in the kitchen but can still affect food safety. In December 304 restaurants and other spots that prepare food did not pass their inspections.

While 304 restaurants did not pass their health code inspections, it isn't all bad. There are quite a few restaurants that pass their inspections. The 39 restaurants below, a little over 10 percent of all inspected in December, should earn our business since they are providing us with safely prepared food.
