New York State and Governor Kathy Hochul have announced that they will be beefing up their efforts and cracking down on drunk, impaired, and drugged driving over the long 4th of July Holiday weekend.  New York State Troopers and local law enforcement will be targeting impaired and reckless drivers throughout the four-day weekend.

The state will be setting up and conducting sobriety checkpoints all across the Empire state, and will also be targeting aggressive driving statewide in an effort to keep motorists safe on what will be one of the busiest travel weekends on the roads this year.  AAA predicts that nearly 48 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home over the holiday weekend.

The state-wide effort, which is funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, kicks off at 6 pm this evening (Friday, July 1st), and runs through 3 am on Tuesday, July 5th.

Governor Hochul said. via a press release:

State Police and local law enforcement agencies will once again be out in force on New York's roadways this holiday weekend...We want New Yorkers to have fun celebrating the Fourth of July, but we also want them to do so responsibly. We have zero tolerance for drivers whose reckless actions endanger the lives of others and will hold those who do so accountable.

For those looking for an alternative to driving home on the holiday weekend, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Uber, and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles have announced that they will be offering discounted rides throughout the summer.  You can find more info on how to get your discount ride code by CLICKING HERE.
