It never made sense to me anyway.  How does my signature on the back of a Credit Card, which I'm presenting, prove that it's me?  There's no picture.  There's no signature to match mine with.  What is I signed the back of my card, Brooks Tooboo?  How would the person know I'm not Brooks unless they ask for I,.D. ... which Retailers seldom ever do.

As of April 1, 2018, Major Credit Card Companies are announced that they will no longer require signatures for Credit Card purchases...but that doesn't mean that individual Retailers or Businesses cannot...it's an option that will still exist.

According to News Reports, Executive Vice President Jaromir Divilek, Global Network Business for American Express, said this:

“The payments landscape has evolved to the point where we can now eliminate this pain point for our merchants.”   Our fraud capabilities have advanced so that signatures are no longer necessary to fight fraud.”

The News Story quoted Jeanette Volpi, North America Head of Communications at Visa, said:

“Visa supports multiple technologies to bring speed, security and consumer convenience to the authentication and authorization process,” Volpi said in a statement.
