After athletes retire from their job in the NFL, it is always interesting to see where their passion takes them.

One day, Dawson Knox could be a Star Wars synchronized choreographer, Steve Tasker could become a bean farmer, and Josh Allen could become a guitar technician for a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band…as they joked about in the video below.

In all seriousness, though, one NFL player is devoting his life protecting the Buffalo community in the aftermath of his NFL career, and he deserves some serious kudos for it.

You may remember Dominique “Niko” Davis from his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Kansas City Chiefs, and while he made marks on the field, he is doing even more now for the City of Buffalo.

Davis was born in West Buffalo and grew up in Western New York. He (rather quietly) joined the Buffalo Police Department as a patrol officer in 2020, according to Niagara Frontier Publications, with the intention of making a positive impact on the city he called home.

Now, Davis is moving up in the ranks in the Buffalo Police Department.

Dominique Davis has been named the new executive director of the Buffalo Police Explorers, replacing the founder of the division, Det. Joelle Bence. Bence still has a role with the department, though, and she will go on to become the role of finance director for the Buffalo Police Explorers.

The Buffalo Police Department shared the news on their Facebook page.

“The Buffalo Police Department would like to congratulate Officer Davis on becoming the new executive director of the Buffalo Police Explorers.

We also thank Former Executive Director, Detective Joelle Bence, during her time as Executive Director, she made substantial contributions to the organization and the community. Bence spearheaded the first-ever 501c3 for Explorers within the Buffalo Police Department, which enabled the Buffalo Police to fundraise for young teens living in the City of Buffalo. In addition, Bence also created a finance board and initiated several successful fundraising and awareness campaigns.”

The police department is always looking for new Buffalo Police Explorers to join the force, and if you are interested in getting involved with it, you can click here to get more details on the position and apply.
