Rangers with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation found two deceased people in two different areas. Both people had been reported missing.
New York State Park Rangers Find Elderly Snowmobiler Dead
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers in Essex County traversed in on Schroon Lake an airboat at 2:15 am on Saturday, March 4, 2023, searching for a missing 71-year-old snowmobiler. It was suspected that the missing elderly man had fallen through the ice.
Schroon is a town in the Adirondack Park, in Essex County, New York, United States. The population was 1,654 at the 2010 census.
Search efforts were made more difficult by blowing snow and wind, but rangers found the man's body around 6 hours later at 8:47 am. His body was taken to the shore and turned over to Schroon Lake Rescue. New York State Police are investigating the man's death.
New York State Park Rangers Find Deceased Man In Mill Creek
On the morning of Thursday, March 2, Lowville Police asked for state rangers to assist them in searching for a missing 67-year-old Lowville resident. The missing person had last seen three days earlier. A search party of over 10 law enforcement officers - six rangers, three sheriff’s deputies, and two Lowville police, narrowed their search to Mill Creek. Tree crews had reported seeing a body in the creek. Later in the afternoon rangers found the person dead in the creek. The body was removed using a litter and rope system.
