Meet The Go Getta Leah Daniel Of Fostering Greatness [ADRI.V’s Go Getta Of The Week]
Every week I, ADRI.V The Go Getta look to feature a mover and shaker who embodies the “Go Getta Spirit” and is doing great things for the people and themselves in the Western New York and Southern Ontario community.
Having the blessed opportunity of having my show “The Go Getta Mix” I look to use my platform to acknowledge those people nominated as “The Go Getta of The Week”
Meet Leah Daniel. Leah Angel Daniel is an educator, writer, visionary, bestselling author, inspirational speaker and mentor. She never imagined the endless possibilities that would be in store for her life. As a former foster care youth, Leah discovered at an early age that education would be the key to her success to overcome the daunting statistics that many foster care youth face, which encouraged her leadership and educational journey. Leah lives her life with the philosophy, that she should always lead by example while also giving back to the community that gave her a chance to turn a negative situation into a positive outcome.
As a graduate of The State University of New York at Oswego with a Master of Arts degree in English and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Broadcasting and Mass Media, she knew that her educational endeavors would allow her to surpass the stereotypical image associated with youth that grew up in the foster care system. Leah is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Executive Leadership at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY which she will complete this year. Leah currently serves as the Institute Administrator at the University at Buffalo for the Community Health Equity Research Institute. Leah has served in many leadership capacities that assist with changing the narrative of generational poverty to generational wealth for communities of color.
Leah has served as a Leadership Development Director, an Adjunct English Instructor, an Intensive Preventive Social Worker and as an educational trainer, teaching a new and upcoming curriculum entitled “Youth Thrive” for Rutgers University in Newark, NJ. She is the founder of Words Have Wings, an organization that inspires “Healing through Writing,” which encourages at-risk populations to express and empower themselves through written word, while also promoting healthy self-image and mental health awareness. She is also the founder of Fostering Greatness Inc which is 501c3 grassroots organization located in Western New York that assists transitioning foster care alumni of color from ages 16-35 with life skills, housing stability, education, and career advancement, personal and professional development, leadership development, and full optimal health management through access, opportunities and community supports.
Leah’s vision is to welcome foster care alumni into a space that supports them in fostering their greatness, to become their best and to exceed the low expectations that society has placed upon them. Leah is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, a founding member of the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals and is involved with many initiatives that focus on foster care and at-risk youth, education and advocacy projects. Leah's strongest desire in life is to share her own story in expectation of encouraging those that have been affected by the many facets of foster care and to instill the message of hope that anyone can become successful despite any adversities that may be present. She attributes her continuous development and achievements to her faith in God and the support of her family and friends.
Fostering Greatness Inc. is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization located in Western New York that assists transitioning foster care alumni of color from ages 16 to 35 with life skills, housing stability, education, and career advancement, personal and professional development, leadership development, and full optimal health management.
