Letitia James, better known as Tish, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is a product of the New York public school system and she received her B.A. degree from City University of New York’s Lehman College. She graduated from Howard University School of Law with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, prior to returning to practice law in New York state. In 2013 Ms. James earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs.

Mr. James started off her career as a public defender for the Legal Aid Society. She also worked to establish the Urban Network which is a coalition of African-American professionals that strive to provide scholarships for young people.

Letitia James worked with the City Council where she promoted the Primary Health Care Development Bill. She has always been very active in issues involving race and equality.

In 2018 Ms James was successful in her bid for New York State Attorney General as a Democratic candidate. On January 1, 2019 Miss James was sworn in as Attorney General.

During her tenure as Attorney General, Ms. James has had some high-profile cases. It has been rumored that Ms James’ office is looking into whether or not former President Donald Trump has committed crimes in New York that have the potential for prosecution.

As we all well know, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been in hot water lately. There are currently at least six women who allege that Governor Cuomo was involved in sexual harassment and inappropriate conversations. Ms. James has assigned Joon Kim, the acting US Attorney for the Southern District to oversee the case.

I’m sure we will hear a lot more about Ms. James in the upcoming days. Today we acknowledge and celebrate Letitia James for all of her contributions to the state of New York.
