At Least 10 People Dead, Mass Shooting At Tops On Jefferson In Buffalo [Photos]
Jefferson Ave is currently closed in Buffalo as police investigate a mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Market. There are at least 75 to 100 law enforcement officers on the scene from multiple agencies, including Buffalo Police and New York State Police. At least 10 people were killed in the racially motivated attack. Witnesses on the scene showed me Facebook posts from the suspect, which were disparaging to African-Americans. He allegedly had the 'n-word' on the barrel of his weapon as he filmed himself on Twitch. The suspect, a young white male, was apprehended by police. As I was on the scene speaking with the people from the neighborhood, a coroner's van could be seen close to the entrance of Tops with a stretcher. One of the victims was a retired police officer who was working as a security guard. There were 10 victims killed and 13 shot total.
According to WIVB, Mayor Byron Brown said the shooter came from many hours away to specifically target Black people in the deadly shooting. According to WIVB,
Payton Gendron of Conklin, New York, about 200 miles southeast of Buffalo.
Any families looking for information about their loved ones can find it at Makowski Early Childhood Center, 1095 Jefferson Ave. in Buffalo.
This deadly shooting is being investigated as a hate crime. According to Occupy Democrats,
In his manifesto, the white supremacist mass shooter who live-streamed himself shooting 9 people at a Buffalo, New York supermarket, killing 2, reveals that he was motivated to do so by the “white replacement theory” that has been pushed by Trump.
According to @vls444 on Twitter,
From manifesto posted by the shooter: "White birth rates must change. Everyday the White population becomes fewer in number. To maintain a population the people must achieve a birth rate that reaches replacement fertility levels...that is about 2.06 births per woman.”
Our hearts go out to the families and friends who lost a loved one today. As well as the community that was terrorized by such a hateful and heartless tragedy.
