Shuttered Downtown Movie Theater To Soon Reopen
In the years since COVID-19 ravaged communities around the nation, it's taken several years for many communities to recover from the economic loss that happened from the nation essentially shutting down for months on end.
Downtowns all over the United States have been struggling,g and Buffalo has not been immune to that fact. You can just walk around Western New York's central business district and see what's happened to the region. Not only are there thousands fewer people walking around Main Street downtown, but several businesses have made their exit.
Over the last year or so, we've seen quite a few stores, restaurants, and a grocery store all close their doors.

If that's not enough, it was just a couple of months ago when AMC Entertainment announced it was closing the Market Arcade 8 movie theater. That announcement caught many folks around Buffalo by surprise, and it looked as if that would be the last time people would be able to catch a movie downtown. However, things appear to be looking up as a capital region-based entertainment company is planning to reopen the theatre this spring.
Schenectady, New York-based Scene One Entertainment, which operates in New York, Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Connecticut, announced that it is partnering with The Benchmark Group to reopen the doors to the Market Arcade 8 in April 2026.
Scene One, which owns the Big Time Movies brands, plans to offer first-run Hollywood features, in addition to independent, foreign, and classic films. They will also make the facility available as a venue for film festivals and other activities.
This is a welcome addition to downtown, as the people of Buffalo have been looking for more fun things to do in the central core of the city.
