Kendrick Lamar Set to Perform at the 2018 Grammy Awards
Kendrick Lamar's seemingly perpetual victory lap continues. On Wednesday (Jan. 17), the Compton rapper was announced as a performer at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
K. Dot, who took home seven trophies at the 2016 Grammy Awards two years ago, is nominated for Record of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video ("HUMBLE."), Album of the Year and Best Rap Album (DAMN.), and Best Rap/Sung Performance ("LOYALTY." featuring Rihanna). Depending on when he takes the stage this year, he might have already won a trophy, meaning his performance could serve as the ultimate celebration. Dope.
Interestingly, U2 has also been added to the performance lineup, which leaves open the possibility for K. Dot to incorporate the group into his performance. The group collaborated with K. Dot on the DAMN. track, "XXX," which, with its raging instrumental and ever-relevant social commentary, feels perfect for such a big-time event. We could be on the verge of an iconic performance from Top Dawg Entertainment's finest.
Kendrick's latest project, DAMN., has a viable shot at being his most wholistically successful effort yet, earning universal acclaim while being certified as one of the very best selling albums of 2017. With it's inventive production, visceral lyrics and an endless barrage of dynamic flows, it isn't easy to see why so many people were feeling K. Dot's latest—and why it's been nominated for so many trophies. Now, Kung Fu Kenny can once again bring his epic anthems to the music industry's brightest stage.
Also performing at the 2018 Grammys are the likes of Childish Gambino, Cardi B, Logic and SZA. On the non-hip-hop-leaning side of things, Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, Kesha, Khalid, Lady Gaga, Little Big Town, Patti LuPone, Bruno Mars, P!nk and Ben Platt are also taking the stage.
CBS will air the 2018 Grammys on Sun., Jan. 28, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. EST/4:30 p.m. PST.
