Megaupload. You’ve used the service, you know the name. And while it might be just one of a growing number of services dedicated to free and speedy file-sharing, it’s the only one that can boast a catchy song recorded in its honor — by an all-star lineup including will.i.am, Diddy, Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Lil Jon, Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blige, Floyd Mayweather, and Game

‘Megaupload Song,’ a breezy four-minute track that extols the virtues of the service over a simple electronic arrangement and instantly memorable hook, is being referred to as a “stunning PR coup” for the company, which has found itself a frequent target of the RIAA and MPAA due to what the entertainment industry sees as a failure to properly safeguard against copyright infringements.

True to form, the song’s star-studded YouTube clip was taken down on Friday after the Universal Music Group — which has several of the artists who appear in the song under contract — filed a copyright claim against the video. In response, Megaupload fired off a response calling the label “criminals” and insisting, “UMG did something illegal and unfair by reporting Mega’s content to be infringing. They had no right to do that.”

The video is back online — for now, anyway — and you can watch it below. In a Hollywood Reporter article on the controversy surrounding the service, several artists rallied to Megaupload’s support, with Kanye West calling it “the fastest and safest way to send files” and Snoop Dogg quipping that “it keeps the kids off the street.” What do you think? Let us know in the comments — if you can get the song’s hook out of your head, that is. Meeeeeeeega! Megaupload.
