Eichel was traded to the Las Vegas Golden Knights on November 4 after an extremely dramatic series of events between himself and the Buffalo Sabres organization. After the Sabres refused to let him get a surgery done that they deemed was risky, Eichel decided that he wanted to go play elsewhere.

The Sabres searched for a trade for Eichel and after getting many offers and looking at many options, the Golden Knights receive center Jack Eichel and a 2023 3rd-round pick. The Buffalo Sabres get forward Peyton Krebs, forward Alex Tuch, a 2022 1st-round pick and a 2023 3rd-round pick.

Eichel, who was 25 years old at the time of being traded, recorded 139 goals, 216 assists for 355 points in his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres.
