Every state has a law or two (or 9) that are just plain dumb. These nine are the dumbest in the Empire State.

Did you know that in Alabama, Bear Wrestling matches are prohibited? In Blythe, California, you are not allowed to wear cowboy boots unless you already own two or more cows. In Acworth, Georgia, everyone is required to own a rake. Yes, these are real laws. The thing is, they aren't enforced, generally.

Laws that are no longer enforced but are still technically on the books are called Dead Letter Laws. Every state has them, including New York. They become this by just not being relevant or even PC anymore. Like in Boise, Idaho, where no one can fish from a giraffe's back... that's oddly specific and may have had a reason for existing once, but is not something to generally worry about today. At least, I hope not!

Where to Find These Dumb Laws

According to a list put together by Forest Grove Elementary as part of a school project, New York has 13 Dead Letter Laws worth noting. Here, we look at 9 of them, but for the full list, you can simply CLICK HERE. It includes Dead Letter Laws from every single state in the United States.
