Things will look hazy across New York State as smoke from wildfires in Canada is drifting across the state today. On top of the haze, the air quality could be impacted by the smoke as well.

Wildfire Smoke Impacting New York State

Wildfires in Canada have been raging for the past couple of days, and that has led to smoke from those fires impacting the air in New York State.

We will see a haze across the sky today and tomorrow, with Thursday being the worst day of the two for smoke issues.

The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for parts of New York State.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at Albany has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Fine Particulates to midnight Wednesday night

Here are some tips to stay healthy when the air quality is not great.

Keep windows and doors closed.
Use fans and air conditioning to stay cool.
Avoid activities that create more fine particles indoors, including:
Smoking cigarettes. Using gas, propane, or wood-burning stoves and furnaces.
Don't use spraying aerosol products, or burn candles and incense.
Don't vacuum unless you use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

One of the benefits of the smoke is that sunrises and sunsets will look amazing due to the smoke and haze. Check out this picture of the sunset in Webster, New York on Tuesday night.

It will also be hot and humid today across the state. We are looking at temperatures in the upper 80s with feel-like temperatures in the 90s and possibly into 100 degrees or warmer.
