It probably doesn't feel like it to you right now because the temperature doesn't feel much like it, but May is here. Memorial Day is coming up soon. Now is the time to start planning for those Memorial Day parties!

It's a weekend to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and an official welcome to summer, which means parties will be here soon. If you're going to be planning a party, don't forget about all the foods you can have catered at grocery stores here in Western New York.

Parties are A LOT of work

If you've ever thrown a party, you know how much work they can be. We used to throw a Memorial Day party every year. Then it just got to be so much work! One of the best things we ever did was decide just to order some food and have it catered instead of trying to cook for everyone. It gave us more time to be with our guests, instead of just cooking the whole time.

You don't always need a catering company

Catering companies are great for huge parties. We've got some really good ones here in Western New York, too. If there's something in particular you need from your favorite caterer, go for it. But if you're just looking to feed your family, you will probably be able to get away with just going to a grocery store for some incredible platters.

Things to remember if you're ordering from a store:

Don't forget drinks and ice - It's easy to get caught up thinking about food, but don't forget the drinks too. And don't send your uncle to the corner store for ice once he gets there either. Make sure to get that ahead of time for coolers and some extras to go in the drinks.

Order ahead of time - Never wait until the last minute. That's just asking to get whatever's left.

Count your RSVPs - When planning to feed people, you need to know how many will be there. And if you get an invite, RSVP as soon as you know if you'll be there or not. Don't be that person who just doesn't respond.

Ask if they have any specials - You're ordering from a grocery store.  They have specials all the time around the holidays.
